« back to About us

The curriculum is all the planned activities that we organise in order to promote learning through personal growth and development.

It includes not only the formal requirements of the National Curriculum, but also the range of extra-curricular activities that the school organises in order to enrich the experiences of the children.

It also includes the hidden curriculum or what the children learn from the way they are treated and expected to behave. We aim to teach children how to grow into positive responsible people, who can work and cooperate with others while developing knowledge and skills, so they achieve their true potential.

The curriculum is the means by which the school achieves its objective of giving our children the knowledge, skills and understanding that they need in order to lead fulfilling lives.

Our curriculum is designed to:

  • Prepare our children for the opportunities and challenges they will face in the 21st century.
  • Encourage a love of learning by making it exciting and relevant to their lives.
  • Offer a broad and balanced education, which meets the needs of all types of learners.
  • Ensure all children reach their full potential through a personalised approach focusing on individual needs.
  • Foster creativity by incorporating not only engagement with the area in which we work and live, but also a broader knowledge and understanding of our rapidly changing world.
  • Build upon existing knowledge and ideas generated by the children themselves.
  • Enhance awareness of children’s spiritual, moral and cultural development.

Our curriculum is the result of strategic planning which develops in consultation with the children themselves and focuses on the areas in which they live and work.

Planning starts with the children’s ideas, interests and questions that are carefully woven together by staff. We aim to deliver creative programmes of work to ensure children remain engaged and enthusiastic about their learning.

A huge effort is made to combine academic learning with outdoor activities. We invest in active outdoor learning from reception, right through to Year 6.

We recognise that personal development is equally essential to well-being and achievement and aim to provide a well-rounded school experience in which everyone succeeds.

Children need to enjoy their education so that the desire for learning stays with them for life.
